Sanford, NC is located 37 miles away from Raleigh and 39 miles from Durham with a population of over 29,000 and growing. Because Sanford is located, where white sand from the coast meets the Piedmont clay, the city has all the right ingredients to be one of the largest producers of clay bricks. At one point, Sanford produced over 10% of the bricks made in the US and was dubbed the "Brick Capital of the USA". Aside of bricks, Sanford also produces textiles as contributing to the BioTech Industry, with Wyeth Vaccines (aka Pfizer) becoming one of the main employers for the area.
Sandford isn't just all business and no play. It also is rich in culture and arts, being the home of the Temple Theatre and enjoy a show or three. Take some time outside and explore their various parks and outdoor activities such as: San-Lee Park, Old Gilliam Mill Park, and White Pines Nature Preserve. Do a little antique shopping and explore downtown doing the walking tourwhere you will see over 18 historic buildings, including the Coca-Cola building.
